Warm Interior

A continuation of the previous post.

Yeah, this is a return to La Vaca, my second visit. This time, we tried a few more dishes which translates to a few starters, a few main courses and a few desserts... including a few bottle of wines. It's my honour to order!

Let's start with the obligatory starters....

French Onion Soup

Potato & Seafood Soup

Lot's of seafood inside this thick broth with scallops, crab meat, shrimps and more! I recommend sharing because the portions are big.

Spanish Air Dried Beef with Rock Melon (RM38)

Definitely recommended. It's very tasty and the rock melon is honey sweet!

Oysters (RM12/pc)

It's salt baked with herbs and cream... not exactly my cup of tea as I like it fresh.

Braised Ox Tongue (RM58)

Served with Madeira sauce and mashed potatoes and vegetables. I was quite skeptical to try initially because the thought of eating an ox tongue send jitters all over my body. And I was wrong... it was very nice! It feels like eating a piece of thick smoked ham. Highly recommended!

Australian Grain Fed Tenderloin Centre Cut Fillet (RM88) 7oz

US Rib Eye Steak (RM108) 10oz

Wagyu Beef Rump Steak (RM78) 10oz

All the steaks are done medium. That way, the steaks are not overcooked or undercooked (just in case of germs... hehe..). They can slice it up for you like what we ordered so that it's easy for sharing. These steaks are the main highlights of this restaurant and they didn't disappoint.

As for desserts, we had....

Chocolate Terrine (RM22.50) and it's melt in the mouth!

Apple Pie with vanilla Ice Cream (RM22.50). Indulgence!

Cheesecake & Cheesecake Ice cream... (RM22.50) Great combi!

I think we must have looked like a pack of hungry wolves gobbling down so many dishes and never ending wines. Actually that's not all because we were served a few scoops of their home made ice-cream like the Pistachio Ice Cream, Passion Fruit Sorbet and Apple Sorbet which are all very delicious!

Mr. Werner had been so busy as a bee that night but he didn't fail to come and have a look to make sure we are all satisfied and happy.

Mr. Werner

And he was feeling generous that night, he treated us to some Spanish brandy called Alvear. The brandy is as old as me! It's my first time having a Spanish brandy and I must say that the nose is very impressive. It's got sweet cherry port aromas. However, I find the finishing lacking and lack of body. It's nice to go with desserts as it's a light drink. Overall the bill came up to about RM1000++ for 6 of us, without wines.

Alvear
Big E brought a few bottles of wines for us to try. We had about 5 bottles that night for the 6 of us. They are all french wines from the region of Medoc, Pauillac and St. Emilion.

The Wines

From Left: Chateau Les Grands Chenes Medoc 2007, Chateau Cantemerle Haut-Medoc 2006, Hauts de Pontet-Canet 2006 from Pauillac, Cournelle de Beau-Sejour Becot 2006 from Saint Emilion and lastly, Chateau D'Aiguilhe 2004 from Cotess de Castillon.

These wines are surprisingly good eventhough there are in the range of RM100-200 a bottle and thus labelled as "recessionary wines" by those who drinks only the best. I find them very easy drinking and worth drinking! The Chateau D'Aiguilhe is very appealing as it has sweet notes and licorice nose. It's a very feminine wine... Ladies would deifinitely like this.

And thus, we ended the dinner at almost midnight. I was almost too stuffed to sleep!
