Coliseum Cafe since 1921...
I've heard of Coliseum but have not set foot there even after staying in KL for about 7 years until one fine day... my dad want to have his birthday dinner at Coliseum! I was thinking to take him to one of the glitzy restaurants which serves small portion food that wouldn't even fill his tummy after numerous courses and perhaps open a bottle of red wine or two.
Since it was his birthday, he would have his wish. The reason that I could think of going to Coliseum was the fact that it was opened by a group of Hainanese people. It was a bar and a fine dining place to the Englishmen then where they have their beer or cocktails before a lunch of steaks. True enough, there were some Hainanese dishes in the menu and as well as an extensive array of cocktails! Oops I forgot to mention that we are Hainanese! Almost pure breed. Heh...

6pcs of Old Style Toast with butter (RM6.60)
We all had a plate of (clockwise from top) Grilled Turkey Steak Ham, Sizzling Lamb Chop, Hainanese Pork Chop, Roast Chicken with Turkey Ham, Hainanese Fried Chicken and Chicken Maryland. Prices range from RM16.90 to RM32.90 for the sizzling platters. I find the taste of the food somehow average. It's just some western food that you can get at those mamak shops like Steven's corner or SS2 Murni.
Caramel Pudding
Ziling ordered a caramel pudding despite being full to the brim. I must say that this is the most disappointing caramel pudding I've ever had! It's rough and I think it's not fresh. Either that or the chef has lack of skills to make this dessert.
The most awesome thing would be the beer! It's only RM30++ for a jug! Can you believe that?!! The last time I drank a jug of Tiger at Laundy Bar, it was RM50++

Dad wanted to drink beer, so I accompanied him.
Overall, the restaurant do provide a lot of nostalgic memories and experience to its patrons but the level of service and the taste of food just do not do justice. The captain was good. Even at the age of 70+, he could still memorize the menu and have a good memory of your orders. But the rest of the waiters (above 50, I reckon) do have attitude problems. Parking was also difficult as you need to drive to the back of the restaurant to park at one of the office buildings.
One important note: bring your umbrellas! They were so many black sparrows flying around that Yiling was fortunate enough to have her hair beautified by their droppings!
Would I be coming back? I really need a good reason to come back.
