Ipoh : Da Food

This post is all gonna be about the food I ate in Ipoh. I've always missed Ipoh food! Sometimes I feel that my taste bud has some sort accustomed to the KL taste. Well, I'm not saying people born in KL has bad taste in food but we Ipohrians have a unique taste for good food. Our tongues are like radars because as soon as we put something bad inside our mouth, we can instantly taste it and will never patron the same shop ever again. Now it explains why some of the eateries in Ipoh wouldn't even be able to survive a month!

Initially we were supposed to go to this "Dong Hoi Restaurant" (East Ocean) for dinner of crabs, seafood and good stuff but it was all fully booked. Bummer. How come we never thought of booking it but Mom should have at least mentioned my grandfather's name (my mom's father is grandpa and my dad's father is grandfather - so that you can follow the story) because my grandfather apparently eats there almost 5 days a week. Crazy! He treats the restaurant like his home kitchen. But then again, if mom would have used his name, we might be able to get a table since my grandfather is a big contributor.

Then we settled for Wanton noodles in Becham. This stall is featured in a cooking magazine and is recommended by "Ah Xian", the famous guy whom goes around doing the food review thingy in the AEC channel. It looked like an ordinary wanton noodle stall in a corner coffee shop. The stall is call "SHINE" - a funny name for a wanton stall. Maybe he just wants his stall to shine through and more customers would come. The pricing is also on the average, matching the price in KL but still a little bit cheaper.

The Wanton noodles are good because it has a springy texture unlike most noodles that were soggy and "lembik". This one needs some bite work. Unless you feel lazy to even work your teeth, then you can continue eating the softy wanton noodles as you want. The wanton are fresh and the wanton skin is translucent. They are famous for it's prawn wanton where each wanton is filled with fresh whole succulent prawn unlike the usual smashed up prawn paste. The prawn is succulent enough to prove its freshness. We also ordered the dumplings but I am not really a fan of dumplings so I don't fancy that dish. However, it tasted good as well. Credit must be given.

Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner however I'm still not satisfied because I don't get to eat the crabs! Nothing really to shout about the wanton noodles but I feel that they should improve on their size of the wanton. It's too small. Can't really fill my tummy though.

[Disclaimer: This is strictly my honest opinion and tastes vary with tastebuds. Please do not even waste your time trying to sue me because just like my sister, we ain't rich! Thnx]
