Celebrating Internation Women's Day 2012

I was waiting in queue to board flight MH 1447 departing from Langkawi. After having traveled hundred thousand of miles, I have formed my own traveling routine and it starts from the point I take a taxi to the airport. My usual practice is to try to be one of the very first passengers to board the plane, not being "kiasu" but for a reason. You know how limited English newspapers are on every flight and in order to secure a copy, I need to board early. This helps when you're a frequent flyer.

On some days, only NST are available but on that flight the very same day, I was delighted to find a stack of The Star on the newspaper tray. And it was through reading the paper, I got to know it was International Women's Day on March 8th. For that one hour flight, I managed to read about women and their inspiring stories and it tempted me to make my own list too. These 5 questions sound easy enough to answer but when you actually try to pen down your thoughts, it's actually quite tough.

  • What makes you happy?

A piece of handcrafted chocolate made with 70% cocoa from Valrhona will make me happy. But what makes me really happy is being able to eat, live, work and be merry everyday.

  • What is most important to you now?

Being independent. I realised that in this new age, there are still women out there being abused by their family or spouse. It's time for women to know their rights, realise their full potential, and to stand on their own two feet. Knowing that, what's most important to me now is to stay healthy, happy and work towards my goals in life.

  • What was most important to you 10 years ago?

10 years ago, I think for almost every budding teenager in the part of the world I'm living now including myself is to get good grades. Not getting good grades means not getting into a good college and it'll be end of the world! I'm not exaggerating, it's true!!!

  • What is on top of your bucket (wish) list?

Right now, I have 3 things on my mind - travel, travel & travel. If I have to kick the bucket tomorrow, I will want to fly to Maldives right now! It's one thing I couldn't get off my mind when I heard about their islands and saw the breathtaking pictures.

  • I want...

to be able to realise my dreams (maybe winning a lottery helps), have a happy family and to work towards a better and greener Malaysia!

I will be sending this list to Star2 because for the next 10 days, they will be giving women readers a chance to say what makes them happy, what are their priorities and what they want. It's not a contest but if you're lucky, they will send you some goodies to make you happy. And I need something to make me happy now so I'm sending this over. Wish me luck!
