Tenjin Japanese Restaurant @ Grand Millenium Hotel KL

This is my 2nd visit to Tenjin. We had a kaiseki menu that night, a Thursday night where they have a fresh supply of ingredients flown in on this day of the week besides Tuesday.

A good japanese meal is incomplete without a good sake. We started off with some Billecart Salmon Rose and then followed by a bottle of Bijofu, Junmai. Don't ask me about sake as I really have no idea at all what it is all about. All I knew was, the sake was light and refreshing with subtle notes of passion fruit. This is brought in by one of my friends. I love the creamy texture too.

The kaiseki menu has 8 dishes which my friend has asked the chef to specially prepare for that night as some of the dishes might not be available on the menu.

Ikura & Uni (salmon fish roe & sea urchin)

Chef Kunio Kuwabara (also known as Kuni san) having fun with us.
That's the Katsuo Tataki Salada (
Lightly grilled bonito salad with a garlic ponzu dressing).

Kanpachi, Otoro & Kimetai
(Amberjack, best part of the tuna & big-eyed red fish)
The Kanpachi is delicious and can you just look at the silver-glittering lining on the fish?
The Otoro has such a nice marbled fat. Heavenly.

M8 Teppanyaki Wagyu
Tender, succulent & it goes quite well with the sake.

Fish Head Clear Soup
Very light and refreshing after some rich-tasting food.

Sanma Shioyaki
(Salt-grilled Pacific Saury which is Japanese Seasonal Fish)
Chef Kuni does very good grilled fishes here & this is one of the recommended.

Saushoku Don (Minced Toro, Uni & Ikura)
It's delicious but somehow I think that it's boring to be having the same combination of ingredients like the earlier entree for a don.

This is an additional dish which we ordered towards the end of the night because we still have some sake left. It's complimentary by Chef Kuni and he called this his version of "Hokkien Mee". That was hilarious but somehow it tasted very nice despite the lacked of black soya sauce and pork lard.

In addition to food, we had a Dunhill Robusto Cigar each and also our 2nd bottle of sake for the night - Kubota Senju. The Dunhill might not be a Cuban, but this Nicaraguan Signed Range didn't really disappoint me. As you can see, it has a very nice reddish brown colour, the cigar burns quite slowly but the ashes is firm. It tasted like coffee with some spiciness but quite full-bodied. Not a bad cigar at all. I still have half a box left of this!

The bill came up to RM250/pax and RM400 for the bottle of Kubota Senju. I think the menu seems to be reasonable with the dishes served. Previous review Here.
