In December 2010, I made the biggest decision of my life which is to find a husband buy a house. Afterall, I think buying the right house is easier than choosing the right partner in life! I didn't have to look far as this house which I've bought is just in the neighbourhood. Mom told me about the house available for sale and straightaway I say "Let's buy it. It's a good buy!"
Seriously, I'm really new at buying properties and managing it. I had to learn from sratch from haggling the price to closing the deal. Mom was a good negotiator but I knew that I had to offer him a good price he can't resist or else there will be other buyers negotiating with him. In the end, we offered him another RM10k on top of our initial offer price to close the deal. I was really lucky as the price of properties has just started to escalate at that time and I jumped at the opportunity.
After closing the deal, I rented the house back to the owner who sold it to me as his house wasn't ready to move in. It has then been 1 and a half years. As of this month, I finally have my house back and no more rental yields. So it can be a good thing and a bad thing as well. Right now, I had to give the property a makeover. Since I'm on a tight budget, it's just going to be a minimal renovation.
This is my living hall. It's practically empty right now but I have bought a coffee table, 2 arm chairs and a red console.
Then, there's a very nice painting which my sister bought in Colombo that I can temporarily hang it on my empty walls. I really like this piece of art!
That's my red console all packed up nicely. I intend to repaint the walls of the living hall as I don't like the pastel blue. If I have more money, I would change the storage room door as well.
This is my kitchen, the heart of my house because I really like a sophisticated kitchen equipped with my baking utensils and a nice wine fridge. I also wanted an island in the middle but that would have to come later due to budget constraints. What I would want to do now is to change the tiles and to knock off the wall in between the dry & wet kitchen area and to reposition the opening.
This is the master bedroom. Seriously I really have some ideas what I want to do with my room but everytime I wanted to do something, my mom always put the dollar sign in front of me to make me realise that I don't have money for my grand dreams.
So my dream remained a dream. For now, I shall wait for my heavenly king-size bed to be delivered. I have also bought a silver console and two bedside table for this room. And then, there's also 2 china lamps with blue tints. It's going to be a mix of rustic charm and modernity for my bedroom. I got these furnitures at a good price (but still expensive in my opinion) during their warehouse sales a few months ago.
The toilet at the Master Bedroom will have to go as well. It needs new tiles and a nice basin. So far, the only thing I've bought for this toilet is a Grohe rain shower unit.
The other 2 toilets will have to go as well. The tiles will have to be changed and all the wc units and wash basins will be replaced with new ones. The two other room upstairs will remain empty and only the walls will be repainted. And then the empty hall upstairs will have a bookshelf and cabinets installed.
So far, I've spent a lot on buying some furnitures which I don't seem to notice if there's any and there's still so much more to spend. I've bought most of my furnitures from Urban Culture as I feel that they have some really unique pieces. It's really crazy and the bills are chalking up. Owning a house is already burning my bank account and with all these additional makeovers, I'll go bankrupt very soon!
I made a list for myself to transform my crib:
- Bathroom accessories (wc, basin & taps)
- Bookshelves & Cabinets
A whisky bar- A 150 to 200 bottle-wine-fridge
- Paint & ID advice on colours & textures
- TV & home theater system (to beg from daddy)
- Blinds and curtains (this will cost a lot)
What I learnt from these is to survey around for the best prices. I've been to home fairs and asked for prices and now I'm looking out for sales to buy these things that I'll need. For example, nowadays I always keep a lookout for these ads in newspapers and internet. I've bought my Grohe shower unit from Flow-Line and now that they are having a sale again, I have to go and have a look.
I am still learning on how to manage a house with so much to do and be worried about. Lucky I have Mom to handle almost everything. It's as if she's the one staying there. Although it seems funny for myself to move into this house, I can always use it as a party house. Now what would be cool is to have a barbeque pit outdoors and a nice coffee table with rattan chairs for a cigars and whisky.
So if you have any recommendations or advice on what I can do with my walls, or house, please drop me a comment.
