Ten Japanese Fine Dining @ Solaris Dutamas KL

Looking for a Japanese gastronomic experience? Look nowhere because Ten is now opened at Solaris Dutamas. First opened in Gold Coast, Australia, Ten has won 2 Gold Coast Restaurant Awards for Best Fine Dining and Supreme Award. Ten is officially opened last week and is officiated by Dr M and his wife.

Ten, meaning heaven, is living up to its name by offering a menu filled with heavenly Japanese cuisine with a fusion of French fine dining. It's concept “The ultimate experience of many lifetimes” conveys the message of its dedication towards the finest Japanese cuisine served at Ten. The premise is consists of a sushi counter where you can admire the chefs at work, a tatami area, and also private rooms. According to the staff, they can accomodate up to a 100 pax capacity.

However, the secret of its winning formula lies in the chefs. Ten has a team of highly acclaimed and experienced chefs to give you a stellar dining experience with their masterful and meticluous way of preparing the dished. Mr Hiroshi Miura is the Executive Chef and Mr Atsushi Nishibuchi is the Executive Sushi Chef at Ten whom both have personally selected and sourced the ingredients for the dishes to ensure uncompromising freshness, quality and taste.

To add glamour to the opening event, Chef Hiroyuki Sakai made an appearance. He is a well-known Japanese chef who specializes in French cuisine. Sakai is most famous for being the second, and last, Iron Chef French on the Japanese Iron Chef television show. Chef Sakai was there to supervise the meals and mingle with the crowd on that day with the help of a translator.

The entree that was served that day is a combination of prawn dumplings which is deep-friend and encased in burdock vegetable, japanese cherry tomato with egg yolk with a balsamico sauce, and shitake mushroom stuffed with prawn and a sprinkling of truffle salt. I enjoyed having the mushroom dipped with the truffle salt as it gives it an extra "ooomph" on the earthy flavours. Very interesting dish and I ate everything including the 2 "chilli padi" looking vegetable that tasted like capsicum.

The main course is a dish with chicken that is prepared in 3 different ways. First, there's the Grilled Chicken Thigh marinated in miso and served wrapped up like a maki in iceberg lettuce and seaweed. The chicken thigh is grilled on the outer layer leaving the middle quite raw ala medium rare and the lettuce & seaweed gave it the crispy texture. It goes very well with the teriyaki sauce too.

The second part of the dish is a Dark Miso Chicken Gratin, with button mushrooms, tomato and parmigiano cheese sprinkled on top. This is a very rich dish but I like the tenderness and smoothness of the chicken.

The last part of the dish is a Foie Gras and chicken terrine with Japanese leek and teriyaki sauce. I wished there were some bread for me to spread the terrine over with. Overall, the main course is very satisfying and rich. What I needed next is something light and refreshing.

And indeed, the next dish is a plate of an assortment of sushi made with the freshest ingredients. The sushi was fresh, the rice is perfectly cooked and there is some wasabi wrapped up in the sushi roll as well. To my surprise, I manage to finish the whole plate even when I don't take wasabi. I liked it because of the quality of the fish used. It's oishii!

A good start to a meal is in the entree and it progresses into the mains and nothing would be complete without a sweet ending. The Japanese Green Tea cake laden with strawberries is so delicious. I love the luscious cream, the taste of green tea after a full meal and the sourish strawberries that balances the palate. It all fell wonderfully in place. I don't mind having another serving of this actually!

Ten is a remarkably good restaurant that serves one of the finest Japanese cuisine but of course the prices won't come cheap. A kaiseki menu or a seasonal menu here costs RM300. There are also ala carte dishes which range from RM30-80 per dish and a Lunch Gozen from RM45-80. So prepare your credit cards and cash if you prefer before embarking on a gourmet journey at Ten!

Locating this place might be a little confusing. To make life easier, just park your car at Publika mall at the basement and head out for Block D5. Take the lift up to G3 and Ten is just a few doors away from the lift at the corner.
