This is my second post on my favourite tapas place in KL. It's no surprise that Pinchos serves really authentic Spanish tapas because the owner himself, is a Spanish! As I've been here numerous times, I knew exactly which tapas are my favourites.
As funny as it may seem, most of the reviews about this place is labelled under "Pinchoa" instead of "Pinchos". Most have mistaken the "s" for an "a" which I told Roberto after he told me that there were more Pinchoa posts in the internet more than the real name of the restaurant. This is a sad case of font being misread.
Whenever I'm here, I would usually order a Sangria but recently I found their sangria to be lacking in fruitiness and it used to taste better. I just found out that they are also serving the famous Estrella Damm which is a quality Spanish wheat beer and also the prized Inedit which I've blogged about it here.
Roberto doing the piggy face while slicing the Jamon Iberico Bellota
One of the must-order-tapas here would be it's Jamon Iberico Bellota, simply means cured ham from free-range pigs that roam oak forests and was fed on acorns. It's the finest of jamon iberico and can cost twice as much as the normal jamon iberico. For a plate of this, we paid RM49 compared to a plate of Spanish Melon with Serrano Ham that costs RM25. Roberto himself sometimes would be at the counter slicing the leg of the Jamon Iberico Bellota and he happily did a piggy face for this picture. You won't regret ordering this plate of delectable cured ham as every bite of it offers a satisfaction that is beyond words.
Setas al Horno (RM15)
I thought this is horny mushrooms (just kidding). Anyways, I love this plate of oven-baked mushrooms with thyme and garlic because the mushrooms are tender and flavourful which makes it perfect to be spread on the bread. Soak the bread with the olive oil from the mushrooms and it's absolutely finger-licking good.
Albondigas (RM17)
This is an awesome meatball dish made with pork and beef and cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. What makes it special is the choice of the mixture of meat.
Chorize con Setas (RM15)
This is what I called a mixture of everything - chorizo sausages, mushrooms and potatoes. This dish can go no wrong.
Those are the dishes that we had for both of us. After all those savoury dishes, if you would prefer something sweet, there's always a dessert menu. But, if I would recommend you something with a sweet ending and also savoury at the same time, would you want to try? I certainly would!
Spanish Melon with Serrano Ham (RM25)
The melon is super-sweet. It's so sweet that you think those melon has been dipped in a bowl of sugar syrup before serving. But of course the sweetness that you get from a fruit is different from sugar syrup. The salty serrano balances the sweetness of the Spanish melon, making it the dessert I like!
A dinner for two here would easily cost over RM200 even without a bottle of wine. It's not cheap but at least what you get here is quality authentic Spanish tapas. If you're here with more people, you can also try out their paella. Though it's not the best I've tasted in KL but they did cook a decent one enough to put some other spanish tapas places in KL to shame.
This place is always bustling with people and thus a reservation in advance is recommended.
