Ducking Tycoon @ Wisma Selangor Dredging

It was another dinner with the usual suspects and I thought ok, maybe it's going to be in either Imbi Palace or Grand Palace which we usually patron due to good food, service and our own private room. However, I was told that we will be having dinner at Ducking Tycoon at Wisma Dredging (the one opposite Zouk KL?!!) and I thought, wow! we're trying somewhere new!

I didn't bring my camera as I thought it would be the usual stuffs we have for dinner. This is a branch of Ducking in Jaya One which I only went once and this place is actually quite new. It has taken over the previous Tai Thong restaurant. Unfortunately, I was late again and they had started sampling some appetisers before I come and when I was there, we were served with the Sharks bone soup with bamboo. It was delicious and I didn't feel so guilty as compared to drinking sharks fin soup. At least I know they used the whole shark and not only the fins.... heheh..

Then, this "popiah" thing was served onto our table. I was asking what's underneath this roll, and lo and behold, it's a pan seared goose liver! I felt that this was quite creative and the roll was very crispy. It's like eating fried "wantans". The Goose Liver Roll is RM18+ each.

I was already quite impressed with those dishes and then the waiter pushed a cart in with this porcupine looking dish with a wooden hammer.

Do you know what it was?

The hammer is used to break open the hard shell which is made of salt that is baked in the oven until golden brown. Underneath the salt is a layer of wax paper and then another layer of foil. A duck stuffed with gultinous rice, chestnuts, cuttlefish, dried oysters, mushroom and meat is hidden is unveiled. OMG, I tell you, this is really delicious. The rice is soft and juicy because the sauce is retained while it was baked inside the layers of paper and salt. This 8 Treasures Duck is around RM98 and must be ordered a day in advance.

It was such a peculiar sight to see these dishes being served here. And then suddenly I spotted a wooden bucket in the room. I asked my friends what it was and they told me that this is the "sauna" king prawn dish. Huh, sauna?!! But how?!!

It seemed that the bucket is filled with hot stones that is heated up and then the heads of the king prawns is laid inside before the bowl of chinese wine is poured into it. Very quickly, the lid is closed and you can see fumes of smoke billowed in the room. That's why it's called sauna because the effect is like pouring water on the heated stones. Nice!

Drunken Sauna Live Prawn
Price: RM9.80++ per 100g
We had the RM190+ for 4 prawns cooked in 2 styles.

Then, the body of the king prawn is cooked in the garlic sauce.

I must say that their menu is quite impressive as there is a big variety of dishes to order from. The grilled squid is nice and the stir fried chicken cartilage with dried chillis and cili padi is really quite addictive. It goes very well with the alcohol we are consuming! Then as for dessert, we had 3 pieces of fried durians! It's not easy to find them here but it's really delicious. Ooh la la....

To help us gulp that all down, we had whisky the whole night. It's an Old Malt Cask of Ardmore Distillery aged 30 years. This is a Speyside malt with fruity and peppery notes. This is not exactly my favourite bottle but beggars can't be choosers. Cheers!

I'll be in Langkawi today. Probably I'll be drinking beer more than water. *says to self : No. I musn't*
