The Best Siew Yoke @ Wong Meng Kee, Pudu KL

I've always been searching high and low for the best roast meats in town. There are many good outlets that serve a decent roast pork belly (siew yoke) and also the caramelised roast pork (char siew) but nothing like this outlet that left me with such a deep impression of their roast pork belly!

When it comes to the best roast pork belly, everyone has its favourite stalls but to me, this is the ultimate and probably the best I can find so far! It was introduced to me by my friends whom have been going there for the past 10 years I think. And ever since, I've been going there for about 2-3 years. It's run by a Hainanese couple and you know what they say about Hainanese - they are good cooks (especially with the chicken rice) and don't mess around with them!

I'm Hainanese but I don't cook chicken rice. So the 2nd rule applies. Period.

Robert is the owner, with a conferred Datukship and also the one who would be cutting the meats. One thing though, he really has his moods. I've seen him giving sarcastic remarks to some of the customers whom had irritated him by just staring at him slicing the roast pork. There's really an air about him and the wife whom has a hairstyle like G.I Jane is also someone you won't want to mess with! I think there must be some truth to what they say about Hainanese! But who cares when they make the best chicken rice and roast pork?!!

This outlet here is located in a corner coffee shop just at the rows of shops behind Shaw Parade. It's not that difficult to find as the outlet is quite famous and everyone would know how to direct you when you're in that area.

This is the famed-melt-in-your-mouth siew yoke!

Roast Pork Belly 烧肉 (Siew Yoke)

What I liked best about the roast pork belly is that they made the skin so crispy like the pork cracklings. There's nothing quite like the perfect crispy crackling to set off some succulent roast pork belly. To begin with, he was very careful with the cuts of the meat. The sides of the roast pork belly are trimmed off generously, leaving only the best roast to be served. There is indeed good quality being observed here. The meat just melts in your mouth and there's no excessive chewing needed! Although it looks oily, I don't give a shite when it comes to my favourite roast pork belly.

Roast Caramelised Pork 叉烧 (Char Siew)

Although they do serve the char siew, roast chicken and steamed white chicken, I think none of this are actually as worthy of a mention as his siew yoke. There are better char siew elsewhere but they do serve a decent cut. So, don't waste your stomach space for other meats except the siew yoke.

Soup is self-service. Grab a bowl & pour your own.

That's what we had for 3 people!

I would have blogged about this place earlier but I was too selfish to share my secret hideout for best cholesterol infused siew yoke indulgence. But I'm sure this place has also been all over the net. One word of advice though - do come by at 12.30 or slightly earlier because it's difficult to get a table by 1pm. They start serving at 12.30noon sharp and not even a minute early. So, in a Hainanese manner, if you can't tolerate my rudeness and waiting time, go somewhere else!

This is really a place to go if you don't mind the hostile treatment and definitely not for those who wanted a plate of RM5 roast meat. A strip of siew yoke will set you back around RM15-17 now I guess. The bill for 3 (3 strips of siew yoke, char siew & roast chicken) of us came up to about RM80+. Now that's a WOW.
