Living the Childhood Dream at LEGOLAND Malaysia (Part I)

The 1st International Theme Park in Malaysia has finally landed in Nusajaya, Johor. Though the official opening of Legoland Malaysia would be on 15th Sept 2012, I was lucky to be able to have a 1st hand experience during the media preview yesterday. There were 4 buses chartered for us to depart from Ancasa Hotel in KL to Legoland using the Causeway Link express bus. The journey takes approximately 4 to 4 and a half an hour depending on traffic. If you want to drive there, here is the directions from the Legoland website.

A warm welcome by Legoland staff. Ahh... I want your red shirt!

If you're driving down from Kuala Lumpur using the North-South Highway, take the Tuas / Nusajaya / Pontian / Tanjung Pelepas EXIT 253 and then look out for the Legoland/Nusajaya EXIT 312. Shortly after the toll booth, there's a Nusajaya/Kota Iskandar exit but don't take this one. Take the next one which has a brown Legoland signage. After taking the exit to Legoland, you'll come to a roundabout and take 12 o'clock. Don't worry, there's also signage to lead you there. Just follow the brown Legoland signage and you'll arrive at your destination.

Thanks to Nazrul for the invitation!

An iconic Legoland Malaysia arch at the foyer is a must-snap-spot. Almost everyone there had to take a picture of this and I didn't let go of the opportunity - I snapped a few! The admission for the day was only a one-time entry and once we enter through the gates, we can't go out. That's the downside of the ticket. Prices of tickets here.

There are in total 7 sections of the theme park. And there's also 7 restaurants or food kiosks at each of these sections. I've taken some pictures of these attractions and I must say that the structures here are reall

The many interesting Lego structures on walkways and pavements.

If you would like a tour around this place, take the Legoland Express.

Never thought that you can ride a Lego train?!!

There's a driving and boating school and a shipyard. A child's dream to drive comes alive!

The Rescue Academy involves the teamwork of parent and kids driving the fire bridgade to put off the fire in the fastest time possible.

I wished our road construction signs looks like this!

The Land of Adventure has some rides of the Egyptian theme. I was more impressed with the giant Lego statue of the Pharaoh. Someone did try to ride the camel too!

The Water Park rides are still closed. The water theme park will only be launched next year.

One of the highlights of Legoland is the 4D Adventure Cinema experience. This place has the longest queue for the day. The short Lego movie incorporates 3D effects and also added effects that you can befall on you unexpectedly. One caution though - don't bring your LVs, Birkins or Chanels in there. Lol...

One of my favourite sectors would be the IMAGINATION section. The cute animal structures are huge and is built entirely on Lego blocks. It's a dreamland for most of the children here and no exception for me too! Not only it's impressive, this whole place looks enchanting and awe-inspiring.

Don't miss out the Lego Build Test building. Inside this place, you can have a go at the Lego bricks provided at different tables to unleash your creativity. There's a slope test lane for your wheeled-creations and another shaking Lego board to test the strength of your structures. I spent sometime playing here as it evokes my childhood memories of my Lego time.

A walk up the small slope is the location of the Lego Kingdom. Nestled within this Kingdom is a brick castle in the medieval times complete with fairy-tale like setting. Lots of photo-opportunities here too!

Don't miss out this Dragon Roller Coaster ride. This is perhaps the most challenging ride in the whole park! It was so addictive that Nazrul forced me to ride this twice! I was quite afraid on the first ride but the 2nd one was easier on me as I've finally dare to open my eyes.

The Lego Miniland located in the middle of the park is truly mesmerizing. You can find some of the famous asian landmarks here and the attention to detail is just impressive. I salute the engineers who has spent so much effort building these Lego blocks. You can easily snap hundreds of photos here. One drawback though, they could have provided a short description of these buildings.

A trip to Legoland is never complete without a picture of its Lego people. This is one of their mascots. If you're lucky, you might get to meet the Red Lego block too!

On the way out, don't forget to take a trip inside their BIG shop. When inside, I felt like a child in a candy store. There's so many Lego sets I want to own but my parents aren't there to buy me one unlike the lucky child beside me. Her dad told her that she can choose any 1 set there. Boo hooo.... I set my eyes on the Star Wars R2D2 set but it's RM899.90. Anyone want to get that for my birthday present next year? Lol...

Lucky I could still afford these cute Lego keychains (RSP: RM19.90 each).

While I felt happy being able to revive my childhood dream here, I felt that the park is lacking in some of the details. For example, in this hot and scorching weather or unexpected rain pour, there should be more shady areas. There's plenty of benches but they are not shaded. I suffered a terrible sun burnt and thus please drench yourself in sun block for UV protection. The food and drinks here are quite expensive as I had a spaghetti with meat balls for RM19.50 and a glass of Sprite for RM4.80. Don't ask me about the quality of the spaghetti as I guess you can pretty much derive the conclusion.

In the pipeline is a Legoland Hotel which would be ready by 2014?!! I felt that the overall park is very well suited for kids aged between 5-12 years old. Adults like us would probably be admiring the Lego structures or accompanying the kids. I would love to see this theme park being a success and hopefully it'll be well-maintained in years to come as I will look forward to the new developments and attractions.
