Estate & Tate @ Intermark KL

I had an unexpected visit by a gf from Singapore. And it happened to be on 2nd of February which is on my 28th birthday. I thought I would be spending the night with my family but then we ended up celebrating my birthday at Estate.



She leaves the venue of the dinner for me to decide and since I have been wanting to try the food at Estate located at Intermark, this is a good opportunity. Estate is another restaurant under the BIG Group which has many successful ventures such as Ben's, Plan B and T Forty Two. This one happens to be their higher end restaurant.

The restaurant has a mix of British pop culture and rustic charm. Even the salt and pepper on the table are from Jamie Oliver's products such as the sea salt and the Tellicherry Black Pepper which is known to be creme de la creme of all peppercorns and most sought after originating from India. Ok, that's pretty impressive.

Crab Caesar Salad RM39.90

The Menu is pretty simple, just like the one you see at Plan B or Ben's. Prices range from RM19.90 to RM99.90 and the most expensive dish on the main dish menu is their Cote de Boeuf at RM159.90. The downside is there's only 2 types of red wine and 2 types of white. But I heard that they are opening a steakhouse next door and they would bring in more varieties for their wine list.

My gf ordered a Cottage pie (RM29.90) which has minced beef cooked in tomato sauce, topped with mashed potatoes and then baked in the oven. On the sides, they provide a generous serving of arugula salad topped with Parmesan. It's very nice as the minced beef is tender and juicy but it can be rather filling to eat all of it.

For mains, I had a Pan-Seared Seabass (RM59.90). The presentation itself is indeed very beautiful. You can see the wonderful golden brown crust that sits on top of a bed of cream and peas. The sauce has leeks and bits of bacon. The seabass was very good but I felt that the sauce was too creamy.

It's a pretty decent restaurant but it was rather quiet that day which was on a Thursday. I heard that they have a band playing on Friday so it might be a good place to have dinner and drinks on Friday. The corkage charge is at RM50.

After dinner, we hopped over to next door to have some drinks at Tate. My friend whom happened to work there has been asking me to drop by and finally months after months, I managed to do so.

Tate is a place full of privacy and intimacy. It's so well-hidden, you might not know how to find it. It's pretty simple. On the ground floor, just look out for the hat with a light. That is the entrance. I was surprised too. If not for the staff who showed us the way, I would be calling my friend in there for directions!



It's a place for pool, cigars and drinking. The place is cosy, with 2 or 3 cubicles with a pole which I thought is for pole-dancing but they say it's not. I'm still doubting that. Karl, my friend who works and also the mixologist there bought me a piece of cake for my birthday and it's my favourite Red Velvet. How sweet!

I didn't know what to drink and I just leave it to Karl. He managed to mix something special - Earl Grey Martini (RM40). It's an Earl Grey tea infused into the martini. I love that tangy and minty flavours in there as well. How nice!

After that, I went to El Cerdo to meet up with some friends and have some more wines. It's not the most happening night but at least I'm in good company.

Lion Dance at My Pad

This year around, I am ending the Chinese New Year with a Bang on the last day of the 15 days celebration. Usually on Chap Goh Meh, it'll only be a quiet event for my family but this year, we have a lion dance troupe coming to the house and the best thing was - it's FREE! Yeah I didn't need to pay anything for the Lion Dance performance because I was one of the 3 lucky winners from Maybank CNY Facebook contest which I have written about it before.

Dad was ecstatic when he knew I won the contest. He was not after the cash but the lion dance performance. Haha...

I have not only one but two lions!

After receiving the good news on last Friday about winning the grand prize, my mom and I decide that we should also serve breakfast during the performance. Due to time constraints, we bought some nasi lemak and roti canai from a mamak shop and I made something special for this ocassion. I woke up at 7am and started preparing some canapes. One of them was the foie gras tositos where I pan seared the foie gras and cut them into smaller cubes to fit into the tositos cups. The other dish is nachos chips with tomatoes and mushroom dippings. Easy to make and tasty!

Relatives, neighbours, and parents' friends turned up in the morning.

The performance was supposed to start at 9am but the representative from Maybank was late due to getting lost. Didn't know that my house location was that bad! Hahah... In the end, the performance started at 10am and it starts with the lions hiding behind the cars on the other side of the road. How cute!

We had to hang the lettuce and also the ang pow for the lions to retrieve. This is also called "Choi Cheng" which is the art of picking greens and it's the epitome of a lion dance performance.

Nice lions right? The black and gold trimmings does remind me of Maybank. Lol..


After they picked the greens, they handed me the stem of the lettuce. In Chinese, it means "sam" which is the heart of the lettuce. The lettuce in Chinese has the same meaning as "life & growth" and thus the stems is considered as something auspicious.

Maybank has also sent some videographers to capture the whole performance and after that they did a short interview with me. The highlight of this event is of course the handling of a red packet from the bank's representative to me. It's a RM888 ang pow. Not only I get a free lion performance, I even get a big fat ang pow! How naisss....
