Fukuya @ KL

Fukuya is literally translated as "house filled with happiness" and in this case, it filled my tummy with happiness because it's an authentic japanese restaurant. The last time I was here was quite sometime ago in 2007 during the Enrich Gold Party. I've heard of the slaughtering prices and thus never did have a chance to return!

This post will be filled with pictures because I have no idea what dishes my friends had ordered. They left the entire menu to the chef and we just savour whatever was served to us that night. Fukuya is famous for its kaiseki menu where it's a multi-course Japanese dinner made from the freshest ingredients.

I love this dish. The rice was well cooked and served with fish roe.

After numerous courses, about 6 dishes, we felt that we still have room for 1 more dish and so we ordered a tepanyaki beef. Can't believe we were not full yet after so many dishes! The beef was good and it was juicy. It was all snapped up within minutes!

In japanese restaurants, we had to drink the miso soup with the bowls itself. I used to ask for spoons while having my japanese meals and it's not right. During the whole dinner, no spoons were used. We had to eat the rice with chopsticks and drink the soup this way:

So how could any dinner with my friends be complete without liquor?!! We had a small bottle of this sake which I have no idea what it's called. Perhaps anyone here can enlighten me with some japanese lessons! The sake is light and smooth. It's about RM200+ for this bottle of 450ml I think.

It certainly doesn't need to take a rocket scientist to tell that the dessert is of yam ice-cream and rock melon. The rock melon really rocks! It's so sweet and you can feel the juice bursting into your mouth!

I read that Fukuya has its ingredients freshly flown in from Japan twice a week to ensure that their dishes are fresh all the time. That's only half the freshness of my favourite japanese restaurant Yoyogi in Singapore. They have it at 4 times a week! Honestly to compare, Fukuya was rather disappointing because I find the dishes arrive looking pretty but lacked substance. The taste was just not up to my expectations. I actually expect a lot from this restaurant because I heard so much about it.

I think for all the dishes we have eaten, it comes up to about RM150-RM180 per person excluding the sake. Overall, it's an enjoyable experience because the setting and ambience is very good especially if you have a small group of 4-6 people, you can opt for an individual room. It's a nice place to throw a small company function or party too but as for the food, I would prefer to just eat at my usual Rakuzen.
