Departing & Arrival (Bangkok Trip Part II)

Departing @ LCCT KL:

Don't even mention Air Asia again or I'll get boiling. As usual, the flight was delayed, allowing us ample time to explore the new wing of the LCCT International Departure hall. It was much bigger than the previous one with ample seats and a few more retail outlets upon passport inspection. One of the outlets that caught our attention as the Country Tid-Bits & Candies Cottage. Pardon me if I'm wrong, this is a franchise that can be seen in most shopping complexes.

I've never cared to walk in to any of those knowing that I wouldn't be interested in buying but this outlet however managed to catch my attention because...

It has got a CUTTLEFISH ROOM damnit!

There were just so many different types of cuttlefish. I couldn't remember all the variants but I think if you name it, they've got it! And they are stockpiled into mini mountains. Actually it's just a trick because underneath the piles of cuttlefish is a pyramid-liked structure!

Gummies& Candies!

Preserved prunes & plums!

Seriously, there's so many to choose from and if you can't decide, don't worry. There were containers of samples for each variety so just eat all you want and don't need to buy any! Great strategy right?!! Muahaha... (sinister laughter)

Anyways, we ended up just buying a packet of cuttlefish.

Arrival @ Bangkok:

Merisess Sukhumvit 16

My sister has booked a room at Merisess way in advance and since I plan to save some money for the trip to be used on shopping, I followed suit. I was torn between saving money or splurging on five star Hotel Grand Sukhumvit which my friend could get me a corporate rate at around 2000-3000 baht per night. A 2 night stay at Merisess is only 2750 baht which is a steal!

When we arrived at the hotel, I think it's called a "boutique residence", it was quite a surprise that it looked quite good although the surrounding could be a bit rundown. Located at Soi 16 (or Soi Sib Hok in Thai), it was a long walk to the nearest BTS ASOK station. It was stated in the website that it's merely a few minutes walk, actually it's further than that. It also depends on how fast one could walk. I would say it would take about 10-15 mins and if you were tired from shopping and laden with bags, don't even think of walking back!

Actually the rooms are quite nice. The one we had was a deluxe room with a nice room, plasma tv, hair dryer, a safe and a nice toilet. The outlook might be very nice but some of the maintenance is slacking. Some tiles came out and were not repaired. Some rooms even have Playstation! It's still a good value accomodation because taxi is cheap in Bangkok. The rate starts at 35 baht and every 400m is an additional 2 baht! So on average, a trip down to Pratunam shopping area would be around 80-100 baht.

Just one reminder that the taxis would not pick you up at Asok station and drive you back to the hotel because it's too near for them so I suggest that you stop at Nana station and take a taxi back to the hotel which would cost around 40 baht.

Oh besides the helpful staff, namely Sam, there's also one good benefit staying there. It's the FREE breakfast! There's a choice of cornflakes or muesli, with Sausage/Ham/Bacon with eggs, and toasts and orange juice. And it's 4 breakfast sets, 2 night stay and a free taxi transfer at 2750 baht! Can you jolly believe it?!! (ok, the taxi transfer is out of goodwill)

Yummy....
